Target Audience: K-12 teachers and administrators
This program provides you with a comprehensive look at school safety. The first part of the program focuses on prevention and intervention and offers you a variety of practical strategies to deal with student discipline. This includes how to identify at-risk kids, how to establish rapport, how to establish rules and how to take charge when problems occur. The second part of the program provides you with a roadmap in the event that your school experiences a crisis. Experienced school administrators teach you how to create your school system’s safety manual. They also provide you with a safety manual that can be used as a guide. Law enforcement officials, including an FBI hostage negotiator, provide valuable advice that is critical to survival should a perpetrator take hostages in your school. Lastly, in the unfortunate event that you experience a crisis, you will need to know how to deal with the aftermath. Cherie Lovre is a national expert in school crisis aftermath as she was engaged to work in the aftermath of the Columbine incident and also with the N.Y. City schools affected by the 9-11 tragedy. The final section of the program features five case studies where schools that have suffered a crisis share their first hand experience.
