Managing the Defiant Child

Managing the Defiant Child

Target Audience: K-12 teachers, administrators and parents
(2.5 hours of viewing content)

This K-12 program, originally developed for parents, has found an avid audience in educators. Dr. Anthony Scannella, a former principal, teacher and certified medical psychotherapist, provides you with practical strategies on how to manage a defiant child. Understanding a child’s needs, both basic and psychological, and how expectations can affect that child’s behavior, can often be the key to unlocking the communication barrier. Dr. Scannella offers insights into why children misbehave, the building blocks of a parent/teacher-child relationship, establishing rapport, saying “No”, and why discipline often fails. Unlike other programs that focus largely on behavioral theory, this program is very “hands on” offering a full menu of practical strategies that work with defiant children.
